Principally, First Lutheran Church provides global mission by our benevolence dollars distributed world-wide through the ELCA.
Additionally, our congregation has had a long history with Mission Jamaica. It has grown from one mission site at Hope Valley Experimental School in Kingston (where the “experiment” was to include children with special needs in the classroom with other children) to several mission sites in Kingston and the Montego Bay area.
Our congregation has continually participated in missionary efforts through the work of the ELCA Division of Global Ministry. Currently, we have been supporting through prayers and financial assistance a medical missionary to Tanzania, Dr. Kristopher Hartwig and his wife Rebecca. Dr. Hartwig is the coordinator of ELCT (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania) Palliative Care services. In a recent visit from Dr. Hartwig, he and his wife shared their outstanding mission work working with HIV/AIDS patients and discussed his probable future with the organization. They have accomplished many great things in the time they have been working there.
